It starts with a simple tip of a wing and then before you know it, it becomes a full blown wingover. Dramatic? Most certainly. Practical? Absolutely! There is no better way to change direction and rapidly descend than a wingover. Even the young eagles have this one figured out.
There is nothing particularly unusual about seeing a Ring-billed Gull around here in the winter. In fact they are quite common. I just thought this juvenile looked pretty as it was landing on some ice. Some slip, some slide, and others look pretty cool all the way along, like this one.

I’ve been trying to think of any bird more dominant in the air compared to an eagle. A golden eagle might possibly best a baldie, but I think it would depend more on the attitude of the latter. There are times when they are simply dominating of everything in the sky.
