An Eagle – Oh No!

April 10, 2022 by vdxqu

Most everyone knows I’m a fan of having eagles around here in the winter months. They are one of the most enjoyable birds to photograph. It’s always good to see them…unless you’re trying to photograph Cranes that is. Having an eagle fly over the Platte, loaded with roosting cranes, is just not what you want … Read more

Dramatic Finish

March 11, 2022 by vdxqu

As a final eagle photo for the season, I figured I’d share one of my favorites. It looks far more exciting than it was in reality. This eagle was walking along the ice edge when it must have spotted the fish, fairly lethargic I might add. The bird jumped into the water with both feet … Read more

Ice Capades

February 25, 2022 by vdxqu

A lot is happening on the ice around here of late. Or what remains of it I should say. As melting progresses, eagles know there is food not only in the newly opened waters but also within the ice itself. So the thawing exposes a lot of good grub, well, as far as eagle tastes … Read more

Eagle Eye

February 6, 2022 by vdxqu

I am constantly amazed at what an eagle can see. Of course, most people know they have great eyesight, but its only when you get an elevated perspective on the river, that you can literally see how difficult it is to pick out fish from the waves and currents. Yet they just don’t seem to … Read more
